Rangers winger Sean Avery will be getting surgery on his left wrist to repair a fracture. He has been dealing with it since last years playoff series versus the Sabres. He opted not to have it done in the offseason. Since he had that fight with Darcy Tucker on November 10th, and the shot he took off the wrist from a Brendan Shanahan slapshot, this has to get done. It isn't known on how much time Avery's going to miss, but any amount of time is too much. Last season the Rangers went 17-6-6 with him in the lineup. This season the Rangers are 9-4-1 with him in the lineup. Without him they are 4-5-1.
"As much as we don't want him to miss a single game, the best thing we can do for him and our hockey club is to address that and take care of this thing quickly and have him not miss too much," Rangers coach Tom Renney said. Well I guess its better than Avery going down in April. The Rangers are going to have to play through it, and win without him. Its not an easy feat not having him in the lineup. Hes seems to be the backbone of this team, to get them sparked up and going. Luckily it looks like Ryan Callahan will be ready for tomorrow's game vs the Islanders. Its just a tough time the Rangers have to get through, and if they play good enough to keep 1st place, when Avery gets back it will make it whole lot easier.
