Years down the road, when I am aging and my grandchildren will be growing up, they will get to relive and remember a player who was so dedicated, so focused, and most of all, so helpful to everyone all over the world. Mark Messier will be remembered forever by all of our generation. What about the next generation?. They will remember also. From this day forward, Mark Messier will be plastered all over the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto. To Messier it's humbling.
"It starts at home with the efforts put forth by your mother and father for all those early morning practices," he said before Monday night's ceremony. "All your minor-league hockey coaches who picked you up when your parents couldn't get there, your brothers and sisters, and all the players and coaches that helped you along the way."
"When people go through this hall 75 years from now, our plaques will be up there," Messier said. "That's pretty humbling."
Messier though, does not want to put hockey behind him.
"There's no imminent plan, I'm not pursuing anything at this particular time, but I'm definitely going to be looking to step back in some capacity, probably sooner rather than later."
What a moment it will be, when Messier decides to step behind the bench, or upstairs to take GM role. What ever team ends up with him, should be ready to win, because that's the only attitude Messier ever had on the ice. That's playing hard, and playing every minute like it is your last. The team that lands Messier, will be at the least very lucky.
Also to Join Mess today, was longtime NJ Devils defenseman Scott Stevens, defenseman Al MacInnis, and center Ron Francis. All 4 of these legendary players made it on the first try, and there shouldn't be any argument as to why they were all first ballot HOF'ers. They were all superstars who knew how to win, and we can officially call them legends.
